Columbia Bowling Alley

For my next paper in English 102, we have to write on a location and an artifact. I have decided to do the first location of where the Monroe County Patriots have their games, the Columbia Bowling Alley. I plan to find the history of the bowling alley.  Find the reason why Monroe County Special Olympics goes there and not anywhere else. How long they have been going there. And for my Artifact I will be writing on the bowling ramp that the wheelchair students use when bowling. This Friday I have another chance to view the teams and I hope to make a count of the highest and lowest scores, who was there(schools), and how many students where involved and how many coaches/ volunteers where there. I also plan to at the time to ask Gina Gunn, high school coach, about the wheelchair ramp and ask if I could bring it in to class with me when we do a presentation of our artifact. I think seeing it in person while have a better inpact then seeing a little picture of it. I learned yesterday from my mom who is friends with Gina Gunn that in about two weeks they will be leaving the bowling and heading off to track and soccer.

Sounds like a cool subject! That sounds like it'd be pretty cool to get the history of the bowling alley and everything. the wheelchair ramp sounds like it's be a great artifact to bring in, i think people would get a better idea of what it is if you bring it in to the class.

This should be a fun topic! I started on a bowling league while in high school in Chester. I am disappointed in the fact that even after Chester built a new bowling alley, both buildings now stand empty and there is no longer a place to bowl in that town. I now live in New Athens and there is no longer a bowling alley. Back when I was in high school, bowling was a big thing! Are there a lot of school age people still bowling today in towns that do have bowling alleys? What are some of the averages of these handicapped bowlers? Have you ever heard of "crazy bowl"? That is very much fun! Good luck on your paper! I am anxious to read it!

This sounds like it'll be fun! Who doesn't love bowling?! Its awesome your going to research the bowling alley's history and stuff. Thats what i plan on doing for my location paper as well. I just hope I am able to find information about it! As far as your artifact goes, I am really hoping you are able to bring it in to show us. I am very curious about this object. I would much rather see it in person than a picture, but either way I am sure it will still be very interesting! Keep up the good work.

First off I want to say that I really enjoy reading about your topic because I have a heart for special needs children and like to hear the cool things that people are doing with them. I have to agree that seeing the ramp in person would be better then a picture. I am an hands on person though so that could be why. Though I am not in your class I would still love to see a picture since I will not get to see the real thing. And question you said that they are about to move onto track and soccer do they do seasonal sports like schools do? If so that is pretty cool. I would think fall time would be something indoors it gets kind of cold in the fall.

This is great! I love that you're doing this. Is the bowling a part of special olympics? I'm really looking forward to your essay on this topic. I can't wait to read more.
I'm really curious about this ramp and how they use it. I do agree with the other comments that it would be better to see the ramp in person than in the picture because that way you can explain about it rather than having to pass around the picture and have the people try to guess at what you're talking about.
I can't wait until the artifact presentation and I look forward to reading your rough draft.
